Clinical roles in 999 and 111
For those with nursing and/or paramedic experience looking to apply their skills in a different supporting role, we offer a range of clinical positions in our Emergency Operations Centres (based in Crawley and Coxheath) helping our teams deal with 999 calls, and in our 111 Contact Centre (based in Ashford) helping less critical patients who call NHS 111 looking for advice and onward care.
In the busy role of Clinical Supervisor you will be based in one of our two Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) and, as a registered nurse or paramedic, be confident in providing clinical supervision to 999 calls entering the NHS Pathways call triage system.
As an expert communicator, you will offer remote clinical leadership, information regarding referral pathways, safeguarding and care guidance to front-line ambulance clinicians, and also act as the first point of call for queries and support to the Trust’s call handlers – or Emergency Medical Advisors (EMAs) – and ambulance dispatch staff.
In essence, a Clinical Supervisor plays a pivotal part in the assessment and prioritisation of incidents to ensure that our patients receive the right care at the right time and, using evidence-based practice and national guidelines, helps ensure patient safety at all times.

What qualifications do I need?
You will need to have a degree in paramedic science, paramedic studies or paramedic practice (or BTECH/IHCD equivalent) with three years qualified practice as an HCPC registered paramedic OR have completed a BSc/DipHE or equivalent in nursing and have three years clinical experience as an NMC registered nurse.
As a senior clinician (with nursing or paramedic experience) working in one of our two Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) you will provide clinical oversight of the case queues within our EOCs, directing staff activities to the demands within those queues, to ensure any risks to patients are minimised while maintaining patient safety, and you will support the diverse EOC clinical team in delivering a first class service.
You will also provide thorough telephone-based assessments for patients calling 999, managing their journey through the NHS Pathways call triage system, referring them to an alternative care setting and/or providing home management advice and discharge as appropriate.
With previous experience in a management, developmental or mentoring role, you will act as an integral source of advice, guidance, motivation, direction and leadership for the Trust’s Clinical Supervisors.
Additionally, you will support Clinical Supervisors in their duties to an expert level taking responsibility for Call Audit, NHS Pathways compliance, performance management, clinical quality and governance within EOC.

What qualifications do I need?
You will need to have a degree in paramedic science, paramedic studies or paramedic practice (or BTECH/IHCD equivalent) with three years qualified practice as an HCPC registered paramedic OR have completed a BSc/DipHE or equivalent in nursing and have three years clinical experience as an NMC registered nurse.
You’ll also need to be able to demonstrate minimum 6 months experience of NHS Pathways use, how risk management is stratified in the management of clinical queues, as well as the ability to innovate and respond to the fluid environment of acute care in the EOC setting.
This exciting and varied role blends duties as a qualified operational frontline clinician with those of a Clinical Supervisor, stationed in one of our two Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs)
Self-motivated, flexible and patient-focused, as a SECAmb paramedic you will be accountable for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, supplying and administering of medicines and the management, discharge and referring of patients in a range of urgent, emergency, critical or out of hospital settings, which may include but are not limited to ambulances, response vehicles, patients’ homes, primary care settings, minor injury units and accident and emergency departments.
Within the EOC you will give the operational team, including newly qualified paramedics and trainees, the benefit of your clinical leadership and mentoring skills and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including other health and social care organisations, over the development of an integrated approach to the delivery of unscheduled/out of hours care.
